About Kevyn

When he was in elementary school, Kevyn Roessler wanted more than anything to be a baseball player. Even though he was getting better with every year, he still was scared of hitting the ball by middle school. Around this time, he realized that he had been nursing a passion that burned just as bright as his love of baseball, and little did he know that music (that other passion) would come to take over his life.

A little before he started playing baseball, Kevyn was lucky enough to get to work with the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus (DOYC), and sang with them for 6 years, eventually becoming a section leader for the last 3. Working with the DOYC gave Kevyn a strong foundation of classical vocal training and an atmosphere of professionalism that would stick with him to this day. In the years since Kevyn realized he wanted to be a musical theatre actor, he became extremely knowledgeable about many of the great works (and quite a few underground works) of the musical theatre canon. After starting to major in Musical Theatre Performance at Western Michigan University, he saw that plays were just as enjoyable as musicals, and began reading as many of them as he could.

Kevyn found that changing hearts through storytelling was one of the most rewarding things he could do. Recently, he got to be part of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre’s production of Parade, which was one of the most fulfilling experiences of the past few years. Being Jewish himself, sharing Leo Frank's story with the Kalamazoo audience was extremely meaningful.

Coming up,  Kevyn will be playing Diesel in West Side Story at Miller Auditorium on April 18th. You can find him at kevyn.roessler on Instagram and @KevynRoessler on YouTube.
